The elephant is the biggest land mammal living in Thailand

It can weigh up to 5 tonnes and reach over 3 meters in height. The elephant is vegetarian and can eat up to 150 kg of plants a day, among others, grass, bark, tree leaves or bamboo shoots and fruit. The elephant is first of all an important symbol in Thailand. It is common in myths and religious legends. The white elephant enjoys royal status and it’s believed to be an animal that brings you luck. Elephants were used during wars, tree felling and wood transport. These days 90% of elephants are domesticated in order to give tours and make money.
